Spring Chicks and Baby Goats at Heather Ridge Farm

Spring Chicks and Baby Goats at Heather Ridge Farm

Fluffy little chicks, caramel-colored newborn goats, and friendly alpacas are reason enough to visit Heather Ridge Farm farm right now -- though their amazing brunch is destination-worthy on its own. As we mentioned in our spring events calendar, they're offering a buffet brunch and 11am farm tours on both days of Mother's Day Weekend 2017; Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14. Check out the details on their website. Be sure to reserve your spot in advance and wear some old sneakers or boots because the farm grounds are pretty poop-tastic!

Here's a sneak preview of some of the baby animals you might get to meet:

These downy, chirping chicks huddled under a heat lamp, like a golden herd of living puffballs. Our new friend Oona from Heather Ridge Farm cheerfully described them as "meat birds," as she scooped one up for the kids to pet.

This shy little goat was only about a week old at the time of this photo.

The twin baby goats have yet to be named, but they're already getting some major TLC from Oona. Her love for goats is no joke -- she has a goat tattoo inked on her forearm.

Oona offered Archer a goat to hold in his arms, but petting a goat was enough for him.

The goats were the highlight of Archer's weekend. He wrote about them in his Weekend News and excitedly shared his experience with his Brooklyn kindergarten class on Monday morning.

I love goats, too. This farm visit and brunch was the perfect early Mother's Day gift for me.

(And if you've got picky little kids, it's an ideal brunch option. Archer ate two, while his less-picky little sister, Ramona, ate a pile of bacon, a doughnut, and Chef Rob Handel's legendary brownies.)

Heather Ridge Farm and the on-site Bee's Knees Cafe are located at 989 Broome Center Road, Preston Hollow, NY; 518-239-6234. Reservations recommended for Mother's Day.
