Superior Sweets at Windham's Higher Grounds Coffee Co.
Higher Grounds, a homey coffee shop in Windham, was recommended to me as a good place to bring my laptop. They've got WiFi and plenty of seating, plus some serious sweets. The crumb cake, pictured above, is heaped with crumbs and rich with buttery-sweet deliciousness. Archer, who'd become hooked on scones at the Irish Tea Shop, chose a big blueberry one. But as soon as Ramona shared a bite of her chocolate chip cookie, it was clear that she'd made the better choice.
Archer was like, "Uh, can I get one of those chocolate chip cookies, too?"
Me: Arch, you got a little chocolate on your --
Him: My hand?
Me: No, your face. It's all over your face.
The cookies were bursting with gooey chocolate. Totally understandable if you wanna just rub your face in it.
Higher Grounds feels a lot like a college-town coffee shop with self-serve drip coffee, made-to-order espresso drinks, and a big old sandwich board. The WiFi is dependable and the seating area is filled with light.
