Be Golden Pizza: A Blessing on Rensselaerville

Be Golden Pizza: A Blessing on Rensselaerville

Be Golden Farms serves charred and glorious pizza, stellar cocktails, and a warm, kid-friendly atmosphere in the bucolic Northern Catskills hilltown of Rensselaerville. Mom-and-pop owners Marymichael and Pat D’Ark, a Roberta’s alum, might look familiar to longtime fans of Subversive Brewing in Catskill. We raved about the pies they were slinging out a mobile wood-fired oven at the malt-forward brewery back in 2021.

Be Golden Farms Pizza Rensselaerville: Pizza paradise in the Northern Catskills

Be Golden Farms feels like a godsend, and the stained glass windows in this pizza barn give it the air of a hallowed hall. It’s just 20-minute, stunningly scenic drive north from our place in Greene County, which has felt pie-deprived since Greenville’s Woodhouse Pizza started operating on a pop-up-only basis.

They’ve got plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so you may want to work up an appetite (and tire out any kids tagging along) by hiking the nearby Huyck Preserve before settling in for a spell.

Besides pizza, Be Golden serves a switching-with-the-seasons menu of salads, sides, and desserts, featuring loads of local ingredients.

Bonus: They’ve got a liquor license. The margarita is so tart and lovely that we haven’t had any incentive to try the other options, though I was curious about their summertime Frozen Scallion Vesper. In a world of Slurpee-sweet frosé, these guys are putting green onions in the slushie machine with gin, vodka, and Lillet. Respect.

Be Golden also sells a bunch of locally grown and hand-crafted goods, ranging from ceramics and knitwear to farm-raised meat. Speaking of which, scroll all the way down for some ridiculous goat audio.

Be Golden Farms

While I was standing in the road to take the above photo, I heard something that sounded like a field of people making goat sounds. It was kind of creepy, to be honest, so I hopped back in the car and we drove a little way up the road. There were indeed the voices of actual goats. They just sound like people. Goat-lovers: Pump up the volume.

Goats sounding like people making goat sounds at Be Golden Farms. You’re welcome.
