Old Factory Brewing Company: Best Beer-Drinking Porch in the Catskills

Old Factory Brewing Company has what you need, whether you’re looking to bring all your friends to a ginormous sports bar or just want to sip a local beer on their breezy 95-foot porch.

Old Factory Brewing Company has a giant porch with a view of Cairo’s easygoing Main Street.

We’re always looking for places to eat outside in the Catskills, and this porch is one of our new favorite spots. They could easily fit 50 people under the awning on their porch, more in their open backyard, and a ton more in their ginormous warehouse of a taproom.

Old Factory Brewing Company’s front porch is a great place to bring a friend, a book, or both.

We are really into Catskills book shopping, and hit Old Factory after visiting our new friend and Ivy + Bean illustrator Sophie Blackall at Milkwood, her new retreat center for the children’s book community. But this isn’t strictly a bookworm bar—lots of folks come here for the ample seating and games playing on giant TVs inside.

They’ve also got a full food menu, offering wings, chili (both meaty and vegan versions), burgers, empanadas, sandwiches, and a few options for kids (chicken tenders, grilled cheese, and a plain burger). Plus they’re serving brunch on Sundays—chicken and waffles, breakfast tacos, corned beef hash and more—with a $3 drink brunch happy hour from 11am to noon, which seems ideal for parents of tiny children who wake at dawn and take a post-lunch nap. (My kids are big now, but I see you, new moms and dads!)

Old Factory Brewing Company does serve wine, cocktails, and even a house-made soda called Cairo Mist, but the real draw are their own craft beers. I’m partial to the No Worries Brown Ale, but I’m curious to see what they roll out for summertime. On the Old Factory Instagram, they recently announced the Brocky J IPA, a “super crushable tropical hazy beer, with notes of red starburst.” I’d try it. You know, a nice night might call for a whole beer flight.
